What's the difference between PRP & PRF?

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) are both derived from your own blood and contain growth factors that promote tissue regeneration and healing, as well as stimulate collagen and elastin production. The main difference between the two treatments is how the blood is separated within the centrifuge. PRP is spun at a higher speed to separate the plasma, while PRF is spun at a slower speed resulting in the formation of a fibrin matrix within the platelet-rich layer.

The release of growth factors with PRP treatment occurs for a few hours after treatment, while PRF allows a longer, slower release of the growth factors over time.

PRP is often used to aid tissue regeneration after injuries, and is also used cosmetically to promote collagen production to reduce wrinkles, plump the skin and improve complexion. PRF is a treatment used to treat hollowness and dark circles - The fibrin matrix within the PRF can help the skin heal at a cellular level resulting in the production of collagen to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

PRP for hair loss

PRP has been used as a treatment for hair loss for many years. The blood is processed in the centrifuge and injected back into the scalp. The concentration of platelets in the PRP stimulates the dermal papilla cells, which are crucial in hair growth. PRP Injections can aid in preventing hair loss, as well as stimulate new hair growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a PRP facial cost?

PRP facials can cost between $500 and $1,000 per treatment. However, many people feel they are worth the cost because of the significant results they can achieve.

Speak with a medical team member to determine if a PRP facial treatment is right for you.

What are the benefits of a PRP facial?

PRP facials are minimally invasive procedures involving platelet-rich plasma administered via microneedling or injections to improve collagen, reduce inflammation, and promote new cell growth.

PRP facials have numerous benefits, including reduced wrinkles, boost in collagen production, long-lasting results, firmer skin, improved moisture appearance, and enhanced tone.

Minimal downtime and side effects such as redness or swelling usually resolve within 24 hours.

What are the side effects of PRP facial treatment?

Since platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is derived and produced from your blood, there is little risk of developing a severe or allergic reaction to treatment.

Immediately following treatment, most patients will notice a bright redness on the skin. Healing will depend on the needle's depth and how many passes your practitioner performs.

Redness typically lasts up to 2 to 4 days, but some may heal entirely within 24 hours.

What is the recovery time after PRP or PRF therapy?

The recovery time for PRP and PRF treatments is minimal. Patients can usually resume their regular activities immediately after the procedure. Some redness or swelling at the injection site may occur, but it typically subsides within a few days.

Do PRP facials hurt?

Most patients report only feeling a minor sting or prick when PRP facials are performed. The pain is similar to getting a blood test and is usually over within seconds.

If you're concerned about pain, speak with your provider beforehand to see if they can provide any numbing cream or other measures to help you relax during treatment and to minimize discomfort.

How is a PRP facial administered?

To perform a PRP facial, a small sample of your blood is taken and then placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood cells. Once the platelets are separated, they are then injected into your face using a needle via injections or micro-needling device.

The overall time involved in the application will depend on which procedure is being performed and how many areas are being treated.

Typically, PRP facials are performed as a series to enhance the benefits and results.

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?

PRP and PRF are both derived from a patient's blood and contain growth factors, but they differ in their preparation. PRP is a liquid with a higher concentration of platelets, while PRF is a fibrin matrix with a more natural composition. PRF is often preferred for its longer-lasting effects.

What conditions can PRP and PRF treatments address?

PRP and PRF treatments are versatile and can be used to address a wide range of conditions, including hair loss, joint pain, facial rejuvenation, and wound healing. They are also used in dentistry and orthopedics for various applications.
